A focus on marriage

First Church is considering the possibility of a simulcast from Focus on the Family featuring Beth Moore, Gary Smalley and Del Tackett, to name a few. This event will feature marriage and is for couples who want to learn more about how Christ would have couples live to give honor and glory to their relationships and focus on him. Scheduled for February 28, 2009, the Parish Nurse program of First Church would like to have your input about your interest in this one day event. Please contact Kathy Taydus, Parish Nurse or Rev. Bill Starr at the church to express your interest in conducting this seminar whether you woudl consider attending. More to come...

Looking ahead

It was an emotional summer with our dear friends the Beatty's leaving First Church to move on to Bethel Park's Christ United Methodist Church. Our profound gratitude for their friendship goes with them as we all pray for new blessings to follow them to this calling.

The Parish Nurse program has two events planned for the upcoming months. First, after last year's beautiful display of mangers we are planning to again particpate in the annual Christmas Walk in Warren. Usually planned to occur the first Friday in December our sanctuary will again be a warm welcome to people who can come inside, enjoy a cookie and cocoa, and see the various mangers and nativities lent for this lovely occasion by our parishioners. A new feature this year will be an angel corner. Statues of all types of angels will also be displayed while the pipe organ plays familiar carols and seasonal music in the background. It's simply an elegant evening for anyone who ventures inside. Those with manger sets to lend will be able to come into the sanctuary Thursday and volunteers will be on hand to help them arrange and set up the beautiful nativity sets. Won't you join us for this very special, "One Silent Night?"

WOMEN OF FAITH

We are ready to go and go we will!
The annual Women of Faith trip is being planned for July 18 and 19, 2008 in Cleveland, Ohio. Our usual trip consists of travel to Ohio on Thursday, July 17 to the Embassy Suites and then being up and ready for the pre-conference Friday morning. This year the pre-conference features Patsy Clairmont, Anita Renfroe and Jan Silvious. The second day is the main conference beginning around 10:00 am in the morning and concluding around 5:00 pm. We carpool leaving at all different times and then return home between 9:00 and 11:00 pm Saturday. Costs include the conference, room, and at least one meal in Cleveland. The Embassy Suites provides a beautiful breakfast and the conference has lunch. Dinner on Friday night is the extra meal. Some attendees have been known to shop on the way to Cleveland and stop for ice cream on the way home...possibly establishing a new tradition??
Anyway...conference reservations need to be made by the first week in April in order to qualify for group discounts. Please call Kathy Taydus at 563-3482 or the church office for more details at 723-4930. The link to the Women of Faith website is also included fro yoru own reading too!
We laugh, we cry and we grow! Come and join us!

Welcome!!

Welcome to the Warren First United Methodist Parish Nurse Notes page. This is an attempt at being more current with sharing the news, events, and thoughts from the Parish Nurse program here.

Please consider joining us for the second annual Solitude Service this Saturday, March 15 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm in and around the church parlors. Like last year's event, the service is a self-paced experience for the worshipper who wants to complete Lent and be ready for Easter by participating in this silent, yet meaningful service. The Solitude Service is based on a "seeing God in life's ordinary and extraordinary moments." The service is called, "Come Home," and is features a home setting of a kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom where you'll find things to do, things to read, and things to reflect on. You do as much or as little as you want, but be sure to give yourself time to recognize and respond to the presence of God.
